Introducing Caoimhe McCooey

Everyone out there in the world, my name is Caoimhe MCcooey. Welcome to my blog and more importantly, my website.

I was born in 2003 at Sandringham Hospital in Melbourne. I am now 21 years old. I have a disability called Down Syndrome but inside of me and in my heart, I feel like a normal person. My friends think I’m the best and very kind. Not just my friends, but also the people In my life think I am strong and capable. It turns out,I believe them. I started my journey in life as a very cute baby with a loving family and my adorable dogs. I then grew into a toddler who had lots of adventures and new beginnings. I had to learn a lot. I had a very strong Irish accent when I was little because my family lived in Ireland. And in 2008, we traveled to Germany before we came back to Australia. As a toddler I learned to dance on the floor, which built the foundation for my love of dancing. My journey from a toddler to a little girl was the next chapter in my life.

As a little girl, I had a very big Imagination. It was honestly bigger than me. Out of my Imagination I birthed this random Invisible person. Who I named Rte (pronounced Aunty). Rte was one of the best things that I Imagined. She kept me company and I loved her Immediately. She and I became best friends and together, my Imagination grew more wild and we invented lots of new Imaginations. But also she was a very big help to get me through life and its challenges.

As a kid I had experiences in drama and live performances and because I was so Imaginative, I immediately started writing stories. I poured out my creativity and Imagination but I never knew I would become a well known printed writer. I also never knew that I could achieve so much and be a part of a community. I believe that I am a very kind, loving, caring and friendly young woman.

I will never stop believing in myself and will never give up on what is important. My strong passion for giving to the world is a part of who I am . Since 2020, I have raised $13,000 from busking. I have donated this money to charities and good causes. I am also an artist. I just love making things. I am hoping that one day my art will become useful for my community.

I am a baker, and a well-known cook (by my family and friends). I am a celiac and Diabetic, but that does not stop me from baking

I have a great sense of humour and I love seeing smiles on people’s faces. I am also very proud of myself for all that I have achieved and surviving my journey through life. I really love being social and hanging out with the people I love. It just makes feel good inside. I would love to make big changes for this world and I want other people to also live the life I have.

I just really enjoy being me and I just really enjoy leading my own life. Gaining new awards and achievements makes me feel really proud that I’ve done something very important. It feels so good to be the boss of my own life. And I just can’t believe I’m doing all this and that I have come all this way to become a well known artist but also a very loving, brave and strong person with my family and friends  that I have by my side. I will definitely keep you entertained.

Until next time!

Caoimhe McCooey
